Located in Eastern Rwanda on the border with Tanzania, Akagera National Park Safari gives you opportunities of wildlife sightings in Rwanda. Being the only savannah park in Rwanda, Akagera is home to several mammal species including elephants, giraffes, hippos, kobs, zebras, black rhinos, kobs, zebras, bushbucks, waterbucks among others.

Akagera protects an African savannah landscape of acacia and bush with patches of open grasslands and a dozen swampy lakes. It has exceptional levels of biodiversity and forms a large protected wetland. Akagera National Park is the only place to see most of the large mammals while on safari.

Detailed Itinerary of 3 Days Akagera National Park Safari

Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park, Lake Ihema Boat Cruise

On landing at Kigali International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our driver-guide and transfer to Kigali International Airport. From Kigali City to Akagera National Park, it is a journey of approximately 3 hours. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge, in the afternoon you will go for a boat safari on Lake Ihema where you will various game like hippopotamuses, elephants quenching their thirst from the river banks, crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoebill stork, king fishers and many other water birds that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Proceed to the lodge and spend the rest of day at rest, dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Akagera National Park

Rise up early in the morning, enjoy breakfast and head out for a full day game drive with great anticipation of see the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill especially the big cats like the leopards, lions and many other carnivores. Watch a number of herbivores like the rhinos grazing within the plains, gazelles, elephants, oribis, and many other rewarding game animals.

Return to the lodge for a hot lunch, a rest a while and then head out again for another game drive in Akagera National Park. After a thrilling game viewing experience, you will make your way back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay as above.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali City

After breakfast at the lodge, you will transfer to Kigali City and enjoy an optional Kigali City Tour if time allows. You will be dropped off at Kigali International Airport for your flight back home or at your hotel of stay in Kigali City, bringing your safari to an end.
