June to August: These months are particularly favorable due to minimal rainfall, making it the peak season for tourism in Rwanda. The weather is perfect for hiking and gorilla trekking, with temperatures that are comfortable, generally ranging from the 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit. Animal sightings are more common as well, with less vegetation obstructing views in parks like Akagera.

September: While it’s the end of the dry season, it’s still a good time for visiting. This month also hosts the Kwita Izina ceremony, where baby gorillas are named, adding a unique cultural event to your visit. However, there might be slightly more rain towards the end of the month.
Another good window is from December to February, which is the short dry season. This period is also popular, though slightly less so than the summer months, and offers similar benefits with drier weather conducive to gorilla trekking and other outdoor activities. However, booking accommodations and gorilla permits in advance is crucial due to the holiday season demand.

The rainy seasons, from March to May and October to November, are less ideal for most visitors due to heavy rainfall, which can make trekking more challenging and muddy. However, these times offer unique experiences like easier chimpanzee tracking due to the abundance of food and lush, vibrant landscapes. Gorilla permits might be cheaper and more readily available during these months, appealing to those who don’t mind the rain.
